Atlas Social, Napa, California

We had dinner at Atlas Social last night in downtown Napa; a cool trendy restaurant specializing in shareable  small plates. We got to try a lot of different dishes without feeling stuffed! I also got to work on my sharing skills that my wife always teases me about.  The dishes were innovative and unique and we loved everything.

I started with a Hamachi crudo made with preserved kumquats, horseradish and pine nuts.  Most notably however was a fresh California olive oil that was drizzled over the fish. Probably one of my favorite dishes that I’ve had to date.

We then shared a salad made with field greens, chopped macadamia nuts and a macadamia nut vinaigrette, and topped with a ball of lightly fried goat cheese.  It was light and delicious!

The next course consisted of grilled chicken skewers rubbed with a masala spice a top a spicy eggplant and pepper sauce and topped with pine nuts.  The chicken was ground and shaped then placed on a skewer similar to the way kafka is done. Awesome!  I need to do my own concept of this dish soon!

We then shared a very unique dish: Grilled cauliflower steak on top of grapefruit with a Bernaise sauce.  Sounded a little different and it was delicious!  Elizabeth’s favorite dish of the night.

Next we shared a mini rabbit pot pie. This was a great combination of traditional pot pie flavors, like the gravy and vegetables, with the addition of some non traditional ingredients like local raised rabbit and a light tasting rosemary scented biscuit.

Next we shared an order of citrus braised pork belly tacos! Homemade tortillas, a cabbage slaw,  salsa verde, hibiscus, and grilled pineapple made these unique and truly memorable.

For dessert, we shared two small plates.  I had a mini strawberry rhubarb pie.  The dough was light and perfect!  The flavor right on point; not too sweet not too tart!

Elizabeth ordered a “peanut butter and jelly cheesecake.”  This was a deconstructed version of a cheesecake but was delicious and does not stray from its title!

Not a quiet romantic type of dining experience, but we had a great meal and a exciting place for gathering and having a meal with friends.
