Christmas Magic, beer cocktail

We ate at Boon Fly Cafe in Carneros this morning for brunch. I was craving something a bit different.  So for brunch (it was actually breakfast, but I  wanted to justify having a cocktail at 8:15 in the morning) I ordered a dry apple cider over ice with a shot of spiced rum. Our  server looked at first baffled, but quickly smiled and nodded in a very approving manner as he walked away.  Wow! I forgot how good that drink can be, especially on a cool morning in Napa.

It’s called “Christmas Magic” and was created by my friend Jean Crenshaw and myself when we worked together. We originally used “Woodchuck cider,” and a spiced rum we had blended and aged at work. I recommend using a dry (less sweet) cider for the cocktail.
